Chainmail Jewelry redefined...
All of my jewelry, including my chainmaille necklaces, are handcrafted using chain weaves of ancient lineage but with a bold, contemporary flair for a new twist on traditional chainmail. I offer clean, elegant and dramatic designs using bright or anodized aluminum and titanium. As a chainmaille artist, I have found ways to make these metals work harmoniously and lend themselves to jewelry which is both conveniently lightweight and very durable.
About metals used in my jewelry:
Aside from being cost effective, aluminum is very lightweight and recyclable. Please note that I use Bright or anodized aluminum. Bright aluminum is chemically polished and sealed leaving the metal with a super bright finish and very clean with little rub-off over time. It is also hypoallergenic
Anodization dyes the metal through both a chemical and electrolytic process which provides a spectrum of color options.
Titanium is a naturally matte gray metal with a slight iridescent finish. A medical grade metal, it is hypoallergenic and though slightly heavier than aluminum it is a light weight metal- lighter than steel -BUT it is very strong .
Titanium is another metal which is frequently anodized: but since its natural color is a darker gray , the anodized colors are soft and muted instead of vibrant like aluminum.
Stainless steel is hard, springy, rustproof and clean. It is primarily used in building armour. Because of its versatile properties it has made its way into the jewelry industry for many unisex and sleek modern designs as a cost effective alternative to precious metals. I like to use steel only when working with higher gauged rings for the strength factor. Unless it is a pendant or a very airy open piece using little metal, it’s just too heavy for oversized jewelry.
I always use surgical stainless steel or titanium for all earring posts/hooks. Surgical steel has a very low nickel content that a lot of people can wear- (however if you are very nickel sensitive please contact me and I can replace the earhook or post with a metal you know you can wear).
